Is it possible to wear sodalite all the time?
Sodalite – a rare semi-precious stone is in no hurry to reveal its magical secrets to humanity. It is full of mysteries. Scientific experiments and research to study its properties date back to the 18th century and continue today. Loosely translated into Russian, sodalite sounds like “sodium stone.” In addition to sodium, the mineral contains a considerable amount of other elements, and therefore is called chlorine-containing aluminosilicate. Depending on variations in the chemical composition, a mineral can change both its appearance and name. Hackmanite is distinguished by its high sulfur content and the ability to change color when exposed to light. Alomite is the trade name of sodalite, famous for its deep blue color and variety of textured patterns. Multi-colored stones with a glassy (sometimes greasy) luster have been valued since time immemorial, but people started talking about their chemical similarity only two hundred years ago. Well, without checking the reactive abilities of semi-precious stones, sometimes opalescent pink, sometimes playing with veins of white on blue, sometimes changing color from blurry gray to red, it is impossible to understand the nature of the mineral. Scientific experiments that began with sodalite in 1811 continue successfully to this day. In 1903, the ability of the mineral to change color under the influence of external factors was investigated. Jewelry dealers have taken note: even inconspicuously black (or gray) sodalite can sparkle blue if irradiated with a hard electromagnetic spectrum in an atmosphere of sodium vapor. Today’s scientific achievements have made sodalite a medium for radioelectronic processes. Jewelers don’t forget about it either: rare and beautiful specimens of this common stone are in great demand. Found in alkaline igneous rocks and pegmatites. Sodalite has sorption properties and the ability to undergo ion exchange reactions, similar to zeolites. Blue, gray, greenish and other granular masses. Hardness 5,5-6,0; density 2,3 g/cm 3 . The photochromic properties of synthetic varieties of sodalite are used in radio electronics and television.
Place of Birth
Sodalite is a stone whose deposits are found in many places, but everywhere in small quantities. Stone deposits look like granular masses. Minerals in crystalline form are very rarely found. The places where the mineral occurs are mountainous areas or outcrops of volcanic rocks. The most famous deposits are located in Greenland, Norway, Italy, India, Myanmar, Russia, and the USA. The gem-quality stone is mined at the Princes Quarry (Canada). A pink variety of stone was found here, which is of collectible interest. Unique red sodalite, which retains its color under any conditions, is mined from a deposit on the Kola Peninsula.
Sodalite jewelry and its prices
Sodalite is a third category gemstone. Translucent stones of blue shades are usually used to make jewelry. The price of finished jewelry with sodalite depends on the complexity of the product, as well as on the cost of the material that was used to frame the stone. Most often on the market you can find sodalite figurines, stands, and elements of writing instruments. Items that help meditation and self-knowledge – stone mosaic lampshades, spherical and egg-shaped attention concentrators, Buddhist images – this is a list of the most commonly found sodalite products. However, one cannot exclude from view stones of particularly high quality that have been cut or cabochoned and have found their place in jewelry compositions. Such sets are expensive, but their cost is determined by both the rarity of the mineral variety and the boldness of the artistic design. The great advantage of sodalite is the low retail price of products made from it. A massive fifteen-piece bracelet is valued at $24. An artfully crafted pendant set in precious metal – $60. Crystal druse with sodalite inclusions, collector’s item, costs $25.
Magical properties
Like all blue stones, sodalite is associated with healing powers with its magical properties. During healing rituals, its blue and white colors complement each other perfectly because blue minerals work with the spiritual, emotional and psychological causes of the patient’s illness. Sodalites are very similar to lapis lazuli, but they tend to have a grayish tint. Some stones have black stripes. Unlike lapis lazuli, sodalite is more affordable; you can even buy quite large minerals. If you have a special corner for meditation, place your sodalites there. These minerals will help develop your meditative abilities and spiritual perception. If you are under stress, bring along smooth, soft-touch sodalite that you can finger through in your bag or pocket. In Ireland, such minerals are called worry stones, which can be roughly translated as “stones of worries.” So, if unpleasant thoughts take over, you can resort to the help of this mineral and transfer all your worries to it. Sodalite brings clarity. From time to time, give your “care stone” a cleansing salt bath. Sodalites are an excellent addition to those minerals with which you perform healing rituals. They bring peace and balance. Active children are recommended to wear sodalite bracelets or pendants.
Medicinal properties
Sodalite is a very powerful healer. His specialization is the mental and spiritual spheres. People experiencing psychological problems should consider purchasing products with sodalite. This is due to the fact that the named mineral helps to cope with diseases caused by stress, mental or psychological stress, obsessive feelings of guilt or fear. In addition, sodalite jewelry can relieve its owner from disturbing dreams or insomnia. Doctors use sodalite in cases where it is necessary to normalize the functioning of the lymphatic and endocrine systems. The corresponding stone is especially good for treating diseases of the thyroid gland. Sodalite is recommended for the treatment of those patients who have suffered from radiation. Blue stones normalize blood pressure, help the heart function, reduce excessive appetite (therefore, help normalize weight), and harmonize liver function. Sodalite jewelry is worn to prevent eye diseases, as well as for nervous diseases. They help in curing insomnia and nightmares. To normalize metabolism, as well as the lymphatic and endocrine systems, it is recommended to wear bracelets and beads based on sodalite (stone). The properties of jewelry also affect the thyroid gland, and very strongly. If you wear them regularly, it is possible to cure inflammation of this organ, Graves’ disease and reduce goiter. The stone can influence the formed tumors, reducing them in size (however, this does not mean that there is no need to visit a doctor). If you have problems with the urinary system (various diseases), then you should always carry sodalite with you. It will help reduce symptoms and reduce the risk of developing the disease. But still, in acute cases, it is necessary to consult a doctor, since the mineral can only be used as an adjuvant. If you are allergic, you should definitely buy this stone, as it also reduces allergy symptoms. The mineral reduces pain. To do this, you need to put it in the affected area and hold it for some time. It is often used by healers for this purpose. Constantly wearing sodalite can “patch up” your aura. If you feel an inexplicable loss of strength, then this is one of the symptoms of a breakdown or deterioration in the aura. If you cannot turn to a specialist with this question, then buy yourself a mineral.
Legend
According to legends, sodalite was used by the ancient Incas in South America, who lined the floors and walls of their buildings with it, they made various products, sculptures, decorations from it, and used sodalite powder to make ultramarine, a blue mineral paint.
Interesting fact
The stone was not known to all ancient peoples. The Incas actively used it in construction, but the famous mineral expert Pliny did not even mention it. A detailed description of sodalite and its properties was made only at the beginning of the 19th century.
Signs of the zodiac
Sodalite is one of the few universal minerals that, according to astrologers, is equally suitable for absolutely all people, regardless of what zodiac sign they were born under. However, to obtain a positive effect and reveal all the capabilities of the stone, the following basic conditions must be met:
- Sodalite or jewelry made from it should please a person in appearance. In the absence of sympathy on the part of the owner, the stone will not have any effect on him.
- The owner of sodalite should have only good intentions; the stone goes into passive mode when it is in the possession of bad people.
Despite its versatility, sodalite belongs to the water element, so it is believed that it is protected by Venus. Because of this, there are zodiac signs that are able to feel the impact and power of the stone to a greater extent, revealing its capabilities to the fullest. These include people born under the signs of the Zodiac Taurus, Virgin, Aquarius, scorpion. And also for those who were born between November 21 and 30 or on the twelfth lunar day, regardless of their zodiac sign.
The stone exhibits its properties most strongly on days of the week such as Thursday and Friday. Therefore, you should wear jewelry with sodalite exactly at the indicated time.

Sodalite – semi-precious ornamental stone, which has not received due attention for a long time. Archaeological excavations prove that the mineral was used for interior decoration back in the days of the Inca Empire. In Europe, sodalite was not known until 1811. And even after its discovery, jewelers ignored it for almost a century.
In 1891, a large deposit was discovered in Canada, and only then the stone began to be widely used to create jewelry. Sodalite to this day remains in the shadow of its more famous “competitors”, and only a few experts understand the true value of a rare gem.
Deposits, composition, physical properties
Large sodalite deposits are located in Brazil, Canada, USA, Bolivia, Romania, Greenland and Russia. There are small sources in many countries, including Ukraine.
The largest quantity of gem quality stones is mined in Brazil
Being a sodium aluminosilicate, sodalite has the following chemical formula: Na 8(Al 6Si 6O 24)Cl 2. Basic elements of the composition: sodium, chlorine, aluminum, silicon, oxygen. Typical impurities:
- iron;
- magnesium;
- calcium;
- potassium;
- sulfur;
- hydrogen.
Depending on the additional elements there are three types of sodalites:
- Hackmanites – pink or burgundy colored samples containing a lot of sulfur;
- molybdosodalites are minerals with an admixture of molybdenum, which contains water instead of chlorine;
- Alomids are blue gems with a patterned structure and a pronounced photochroism effect.
However, almost all sodalites are endowed with the ability to temporarily change shade under the influence of lighting. But exactly Alomids are considered the most beautiful thanks to rich colors and unique patterns. Apart from rare exceptions, only blue stones are used in jewelry.
The physical properties of sodalite are as follows:
- hardness on the Mohs scale – 5,5-6 points;
- density – 2,3 g/cm3;
- color – blue, white, light blue, gray, pink, green;
- line color – white;
- can be transparent or translucent;
- refractive index – from 1.483 to 1.487;
- system – cubic.
Due to implicit cleavage the mineral is fragile, it is easily damaged during processing. Compared to other jewelry gems, its hardness is low. However, sodalite jewelry is produced in large quantities because there is a demand for it.
Scope
Gem-quality alomids are used for inlaying gold and platinum jewelry. Stones of other colors and blue specimens with defects are used to make silver and designer jewelry.
Being an ornamental material, sodalite has found application in arts and crafts and in the field of interior design. Figurines, figurines, stands, frames, mosaics, lamps and other decorative items are made from it.
The stone is especially revered in the Buddhist religion. Buddha figurines are often made from it.
Due to its unusual physical properties (such as photochroism), the mineral is also of interest to industry. It is used in television and radio electronics. Sodalite is sometimes used in chemical experiments where it acts as a catalyst.
Healing and magical properties
The stone neutralizes the effects of radiation, helps fight excess weight, and normalizes the cardiovascular system. The sodalite talisman treats diseases of vision, liver and nervous system. It also strengthens bones and teeth. Some lithotherapists claim that the mineral can remove swelling if it is regularly applied to the affected area.
Among the magical properties, the most famous is the ability of the stone to reveal extrasensory abilities in its owner. Sodalite promotes concentration and clarity of thinking, helping to make the right decisions. A girl wearing sodalite jewelry will enjoy success with the opposite sex.
It is believed that sodalite darkens greatly if a threat approaches the owner. It doesn’t matter what frame it’s in or what cut it has.
According to the zodiac sign, the gem is most suitable for Virgos, Scorpios and Aquarius. But he is friendly towards everyone, ready to help everyone with solving problems. Sodalite talisman can be worn all the time, it does not overload the nervous system. But esotericists advise periodically giving it energy cleansing by rinsing it with running water.
