Information about manufacturer Open Joint Stock Company “Borisov Medical Preparations Plant”, Republic of Belarus, Minsk region, Borisov, st. Chapaeva, 64, tel/fax +375(177)735612, 731156. Zinc ointment . In Latin – Unguentum Zinci, in English – Zinc ointment. ATC code D02A B. The active substance of this dosage form is zinc oxide, or previously zinc oxide (Zinci oxydum).

History of the use of zinc oxide

If you delve into the history of mankind, you can find traces of the use of this inexpensive and effective chemical element for several hundred years. In the Earth’s crust, the mass of zinc is up to 10%. Moreover, this metal is found in polymetallic sulfide ores, and for a long time it was not possible to isolate zinc in its pure form. It was only in 1738 that William Champion obtained this metal in its pure form and was granted a patent for a method for isolating it by distillation. Zinc began to be produced in large quantities needed for industry in the 1743th century in Bristol, in 1746. An improved method for extracting this element was developed in 1915 by Andreas Marggraf in Germany. Gradually, methods for obtaining zinc improved. The first factories in which zinc was produced by the electrolytic method appeared in 120 in two countries – Canada and the USA. By the way, the word “zinc” first appears in the works of Paracelsus. The biological role of the element was discovered about 5 years ago, but the wound-healing effect of zinc ointment was known XNUMX thousand years ago – to the ancient Egyptians.
Zinc is used in almost every home. How else? After all, this chemical substance, of which our skin contains almost 20%, is an important trace element for the body. Not only does it stimulate the work of enzymes, these natural catalysts, but it also takes part in two important processes: cell division and tissue repair. In addition, without this element there can be no development of the brain and the process of procreation – reproduction, since it plays an important role in the production of the male hormone testosterone. The chemical element number 30 of the periodic table, being part of enzymes and proteins, is responsible for the synthesis of insulin and the creation of red blood cells. Zinc deficiency, which increases with age, is created by various stresses, heavy consumption of protein foods and poisoning. The deficiency of this metal is enhanced by the use of hormones, both in the treatment of relevant diseases and as contraceptives. Liver disease and tumors contribute to zinc loss. Moreover, a lack of zinc even affects a person’s appearance. In particular, such a patient develops chronic dermatitis and wounds heal slowly. Very often he experiences baldness. But other disturbances in the functioning of the human body are also possible: anemia, slow growth, poor absorption of food, and there may also be vision problems and the development of psychosis. And if there is a lack of zinc in a pregnant woman’s body, the child may have complications that can lead to external deformities. By the way, a person consumes about 15 mg of zinc per day, and on average his body contains about 3 g of this element. By the way, until recently in nutrition there was no correct way to determine the content of this mineral in the cells of the human body. The most reliable way is spectral analysis of hair and nails. As for the simplest thing, there is that too: this is a taste test. It turns out that if you take something from galvanized utensils and hold it on your tongue, then if a person has everything in order with the zinc content, then he will immediately feel bitterness on the tongue. If, on the contrary, there is a lack of this metal, then he either does not feel anything, or the taste comes a little later, not immediately.
As you can see, the importance of this metal in life and, naturally, in human treatment is obvious. And therefore it is not surprising that there are drugs containing this important element. In this case, we will be talking about a drug that has been used for a long time and has not yet lost its relevance, despite the fact that many new drugs have now appeared. This remedy is very popular and it is called Zinc ointment.
Medicinal ointments with zinc oxide or Zinc ointment.
Zinc ointment 10% 20,0; 25,0; 30,0 g per container or tube.

Composition

1 g of ointment contains 100 mg of zinc oxide (active ingredient). The composition includes white soft paraffin. Appearance of the ointment: a white or light yellow substance (GF, tenth edition, 1968).
Currently, other substances can be added to the ointment, in particular, menthol can be used for a pleasant smell, and lanolin can be used to soften the effect. Fish oil may also be added as a source of vitamins A and D, as well as omega-3, parabens as a preservative and dimethicone as an emollient.
What is valuable in this simple and inexpensive tool?
The properties of the active substance, that is, zinc oxide, provide the following therapeutic effects:
– healing, as it helps regenerate the skin;
– protective, which consists in protecting skin cells from exposure to ultraviolet radiation. As a result, the ointment also has a preventive effect to prevent sunburn and tanning, thus becoming even;
– astringent: the film that forms on the surface of the skin prevents irritation;
– adsorbent, which reduces the release of fluid or exudate by inflamed skin cells and also reduces the wetting of areas of inflammation.
In addition, you need to remember that the frequency of use, as well as the dose of the drug, directly depend on the indications.

Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics

The active substance of Zinc ointment has two main properties: it has an anti-inflammatory effect and acts as an antiseptic. The drug spreads easily and creates a kind of protective film on the skin. And the film helps restore and renew the skin (Repka O., 2018).
Possibilities of Zinc ointment. It has a positive effect if diagnosed correctly. As a matter of fact, like all medicines.
Therefore, it is necessary to immediately emphasize that Zinc ointment is not a panacea and its action has limits, like any medicine. It helps eliminate symptoms of pain, discomfort and ease the course of the disease. Therefore, treatment of any disease begins with a consultation with a doctor. And without consultation, the ointment is recommended to be used as a prophylactic agent (Repka O., 2015).

Показания

Effective in the following situations:
– prickly heat, in the initial stage, not burdened by viral tissue damage in the complex;
– superficial wounds received after mechanical or other blows, in particular burns, wounds or abrasions;
– dermatitis, including “diaper” dermatitis, as well as streptoderma;
– violation of the integrity of body tissue due to physiological structure;
– bedsores. It is susceptible to diaper rash and various foci of ulcers, including trophic ones (Repka O., 2018).
Briefly speaking about the drug, it is an effective anti-inflammatory and wound-healing agent.
How it works or a description of these processes in action:
1. When the ointment gets on the skin, zinc, upon direct exposure, activates the enzymes responsible for renewing the epidermis.
2. In this case, the enzymes responsible for metabolism are activated.
3. Thanks to the presence of ointment on the surface of the skin, the metabolic process is maintained normally: the pores open and control of fat production begins to work. This process underlies the prevention of the formation of new wrinkles and the appearance of unnecessary sebaceous shine.
Basic rules for using Zinc ointment depending on existing skin diseases.
You need to remember the main thing: for each disease there is its own method of application.
1. Small wounds, abrasions and cuts: the product is applied up to 6 times a day. But with mandatory preliminary cleansing of the skin. Apply a thin layer to the wound, but do not rub it in.
2. For burns, fill the burn wound with a thick layer of ointment, then cover it with a sterile napkin or bandage. You can cover it with gauze, but first fold it in several layers.
3. Increased pigmentation on the skin: rub in a small amount of ointment every day. If you have age spots, you cannot use the ointment for more than 2 months.
4. Diathesis: ointment is applied up to 6 times a day every day. But before going to bed, the skin must be washed with an infusion of chamomile flowers. If skin peeling occurs, use baby cream.
5. Children. In this case, the ointment is used not only for treatment, but also for the prevention of skin rashes, as well as diaper rash and dermatitis. In this case, a preliminary rinsing of the skin area that will be treated with ointment is carried out. After this, the skin is dried and a small amount of medication is applied. Valuable: this ointment dries the skin well, but also disinfects it. This drug also has adsorbing properties. Considering that the drug does not have a negative effect on the skin, it is allowed to use it when using diapers.
