What is the best crystal in the world?
During Soviet times, crystal from the Czech Moser manufactory was as much an object of desire as American jeans and Yugoslav furniture. The Soviet Union no longer exists, but Moser products are still popular in different countries. We tell you how it is created. Crystal Manufactory Moser is considered one of the main attractions of Karlovy Vary along with mineral springs, the Market Colonnade and the cleanest healing air. The latter, by the way, was one of the reasons why the authorities of this resort town did not want to give Ludwig Moser permission to open his own manufactory – one of the components of crystal is lead oxide, which is harmful to human health. Before opening his own factory, a professional engraver and merchant Moser maintained a workshop-shop for 35 years: he bought finished products from other manufacturers and decorated glasses, vases and other objects with engravings. The workshop appeared in 1857 – this is considered the founding date of the brand Moser. Moser opened his production in 1892, after he revived the long-forgotten formula of lead-free crystal, which is still a trade secret of the brand. © Moser press service However, not only this formula distinguishes Moser from many other manufactories engaged in the production of Bohemian glass. Firstly, wool, agate or hematite are used to polish products of this brand, but in no case is acid used for these purposes in other factories. Secondly, the masters of the manufactory have developed about a dozen signature colors for crystal coloring, named after various semi-precious stones: light blue aquamarine, soft green beryl, purple amethyst, honey-brown topaz. Thirdly, without exception, all products of this brand are made by hand – blown, polished, gilded or engraved. © facebook.com/moser.glassworks Another point of pride Moser – design. Ludwig Moser and his son Leo, who was first the art director of the manufactory and who headed it after his father’s death, were sensitive to all fashion trends. Suffice it to say that the engraving on the vase Victoria, which is still in the brand’s assortment, was made based on the painting “Flowers: Carnation” famous Czech painter Alphonse Mucha. To this day, the manufactory maintains its traditions, but at the same time is open to everything new. Classic collections – Royal, Paula or Copenhagen – whose design was developed back in the early 1900s, have not lost popularity for a whole century. And such famous glass artists as Jiri Suhajek, whose works are stored in the British Victoria and Albert Museum. This summer Moser attracted Russian designer Konstantin Gaidai to collaborate. And as a result, they were born “Domes”, a line of champagne glasses. Their shape and cut are reminiscent of the domes of the Intercession Cathedral, which inspired Gaidai for this set. © Moser press service The combination of a lead-free formula, signature colors, hand-cutting and polishing without the use of chemicals makes the products of the manufactory Moser special. And perhaps that is why the products of this brand were willingly ordered or accepted as gifts by monarchs, politicians and celebrities. Already in the early 1900s, Ludwig Moser became the official supplier of the Persian Shah Musaferedeen and the British monarch Edward VII. In 1923, a set created at the manufactory Pope (i.e., “papa”), consisting of 214 items, was sent to the Vatican to Pope Pius XI. A set of glasses and dishes from the collection splendid, considered the most recognizable among products Moser, decorated with elegant engraving and covered with a wide border of 24-karat gold, was given as a wedding gift to the future Queen Elizabeth II in 1947. Products from the collection Copenhagen can be seen in the hands of monarchs, politicians and their guests during dinner parties: for example, in 2010, the presidents of the Russian Federation, the USA and the Czech Republic – Dmitry Medvedev, Barack Obama and Vaclav Klaus – drank from such glasses at one of the official meetings. © facebook.com/moser.glassworks At the manufactory Moser awards are also created “Crystal Globe”, which are awarded to the winners of the famous throughout Europe film festival in Karlovy Vary. You can learn about all this by signing up for a tour of the manufactory, which is located on the outskirts of Karlovy Vary. To begin with, you will be taken around the museum, where they will show you a replica of a glass from the collection made for Joseph Stalin Royal with the leader’s initials engraved and talk about the Big Bowl Club, which politicians and celebrities join after drinking from giant glasses Moser “Becherovka”. Then visitors go to the manufactory itself, where they are shown all the stages of creating products Moser. First, guests are taken to the glass-blowing shop, where red-hot workers blow out glasses and vases, then to where crystal items are polished, painted and plated with gold. Moser brand store
© Moser press service The last point is the company store Moser, where you can find colorful vases, thin glasses, elegant bottles, in a word, everything that this manufactory is famous for. If you don’t get to Karlovy Vary, go to a Moscow store “House of Porcelain”, which is the official distributor of the famous Czech brand: sets from time-tested collections splendid or Royal or engraved vases will be excellent gifts for the New Year or any other celebration. Crystal is invariably associated with something solemn, elite, and chic. Crystal accessories can often be seen in movies about the beautiful life: “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, “The Great Gatsby”, films about James Bond, where serious politicians with long-legged girls elegantly hold champagne glasses in their hands, and in flower vases also made made of crystal glass, there are lush bouquets of flowers. Modern technologies have made the production of crystal products less expensive, so everyone can afford to buy crystal for table settings, but handmade crystal is still chic. All dishes presented in the rating can be purchased in the Posudamart online store. Our experts are confident in its impeccable quality.

The placement of crystal glassware on the table is strictly regulated, regardless of shape, size and design. There are two ways to arrange. If the theme of the meal involves serving one type of alcoholic or soft drink, shot glasses, lafitniks, wine glasses, glasses or glasses are placed behind the plate perpendicular to its center. If the event involves serving several drinks, which often happens at weddings, banquets and other celebrations, crystal glassware is placed on the right side of the plate. What to combine Avdeev Crystal crystal with for table settings?
Avdeev Crystal Crystal tableware is used in festive and everyday table settings Historically, crystal has been primarily used in table settings made in classic and vintage styles. This is also an integral attribute of ceremonial serving. But modern housewives are increasingly using crystal in everyday table settings. A variety of designs allows you to fit crystal glasses, vases, glasses, salad bowls and dishes into any of the popular modern styles. But do not forget that crystal requires a decent frame. What to combine it with? The Posudamart online store presents products and brands that will perfectly complement the crystal collections of Avdeev Crystal. First of all, crystal goes well with porcelain dishes. Pay attention to the luxurious services from Anna Lafarg and Lenox, the Meissen Bouquet collection of Czech porcelain from Queen’s Crown or the Swan collection from Meissen. You should also not ignore high-quality earthenware and ceramic dishes; they will make the table setting more comfortable and modern. The Blue Italian collection of English ceramics from Spode or plates from French Gien faience are suitable for serving in such trendy styles as country and Mediterranean. No table setting is complete without cutlery. Whatever they may be: minimalistic or, conversely, in the Baroque style, the main thing is that the quality does not raise questions. We recommend sets of exquisite cutlery from English manufacturers Arthur Price of England and Robert Welch, which will fit into any table setting and will look worthy next to the most luxurious crystal. And if you want to make your table setting not just luxurious, but also bright and unique, pay attention to cutlery from Cutipol or Domus&Design. Unique shapes, stylish shades of metal and handles will make the table setting exclusive.
Expensive? Not necessary!
Don’t think that crystal tableware is necessarily an “expensive or rich” style. Modern table setting suggests eclecticism. Crystal glasses, vases and other glassware can be combined with everyday plates and cutlery. The main thing is that everything is chosen with taste. Porcelain table sets from the Australian brand Maxwell & Williams look very stylish. Beautiful, youthful and fairly affordable porcelain can be found from the Italian brand Easy Life.
