What is the best healing stone?
In ancient cults, precious stones were valued not only for their attractive appearance. Each mineral had its own magical meaning. The owner of the stone first of all thought not about how to decorate himself, but about what benefits this or that gem would bring to his health and prosperity. And it was not always the most beautiful stone that turned out to be the most effective. The most energetically powerful gems could be quite inconspicuous in appearance. Tibetan and Chinese traditional medicine, as well as Indian Ayurveda, have been actively using the medicinal properties of stones for healing for centuries. It is believed that by influencing various minerals, it is possible to harmonize all energy flows in the human body and thereby completely improve its health. In everyday life, the effect of precious stones is also noticeable. Some stones, when worn for a long time, significantly improve well-being, while others, on the contrary, crush the owner with their energy and aggravate his chronic diseases. You should approach the choice of jewelry with stones as if you were choosing a doctor – get recommendations and listen to your intuition. When buying jewelry, it is important to hold it in your hands for a few minutes, follow your emotions, and feel the energy of the stone. If the sensations from the stone are not pleasant, feel free to refuse the purchase. If the feelings are rather positive, it’s worth thinking about it. If purchasing jewelry is done online, and you do not have the opportunity to “communicate with the stone” in person, in this case it is worth using data on the correspondence of minerals to the signs of the zodiac and your birthday. As well as information about the healing and magical properties of stones, which we will place in our encyclopedia in articles about individual minerals. Some of this information can be found below. Lapis lazuli is the king of stones in Tibetan medicine. Cool blue stone – represents the Medicine Buddha. It is to him that Tibetans turn for healing from all diseases. This Buddha holds in his hands a lapis lazuli bowl with the nectar of immortality, which relieves all ailments. And to meditate on the Medicine Buddha, Buddhists use lapis lazuli beads. Lapis lazuli is an almost universal healing stone. Most clearly, it reveals healing properties for pain of any nature, high blood pressure and rheumatism. Medicine Buddha with lapis lazuli bowl Turquoise is an indicator of health. It is believed that when its owner falls ill, the stone changes color or becomes dull. Turquoise framed in silver helps with insomnia and headaches. Turquoise is useful to wear for people with thyroid diseases, arthritis, arthrosis, diabetes, ulcers, liver diseases and nervous disorders. If you constantly wear a pendant with blue turquoise, you can strengthen your heart and get rid of headaches; earrings with turquoise give strength, relieve fatigue and outbursts of anger. Turquoise is effective for colds and vision problems, cleanses the body of toxins. Jade is a natural heating pad. Its main property is to keep warm for a long time. Therefore, Tibetans always use it if a person has a problem with internal heat: cold or “cold kidneys,” chilly hands and feet, sluggish metabolism. Jade helps with any problems with the lower back, relieves back pain. Jade is also used for poisoning and allergies. Coral is an indispensable remedy for nervous people. Coral has the ability to calm, reduce irritability, alleviate suffering from nervous disorders, relieve depression and insomnia. This is a stone of calm and balance. When worn for a long time, it even relieves epilepsy and insanity. Coral is also effective against internal problems – it treats ulcers and abscesses, intestinal diseases, stomach, spleen, and can even get rid of stones in the bladder. Amethyst – enhances the owner’s energy, strengthens the endocrine and immune systems, and eliminates addiction to alcohol. It is indispensable for skin diseases. Framed with precious metals – silver and gold – all stones enhance the effect. Warm gold belongs to Yang energy and embodies the Sun, while cool silver represents Yin and the Moon. Gold gives additional energy, and silver absorbs excessive excitement and painful impressions, turning diseases back. Gold prolongs life, and silver helps with lymph and skin diseases and has an antimicrobial effect. That is why it is applied to wounds and burns, mineral water is enriched with it, and acupuncture needles are made from it. And it is silver, according to Tibetan beliefs, that relieves chronic diseases. Stones for baths and saunas are no less important than interior decoration or lighting. It is advisable to approach their choice only after studying the properties and varieties. River pebbles or granite are not suitable as bath stones. For a comfortable and healthy rest, you need to choose the appropriate minerals. Semi-precious jadeite provides “light steam” in a bath or sauna. This stone is well suited for stoves and heaters, so it is in great demand among bath attendants. And why it is chosen for a steam room, we will explain in detail in this article. Pros and cons of jadeite
- environmental cleanliness;
- resistance to elevated temperatures;
- good heat capacity;
- optimal sizes (not too large, but not small);
- homogeneous composition and structure;
- absence of a large number of sharp corners.
Stones with harmful impurities and radiation are completely unsuitable. This is a serious contraindication for use in a steam room. When interacting with hot water, such stones will release dangerous substances, and if they have an unsuitable structure, they will split, “shooting” fragments. But even not all minerals specifically designed for steam are as useful as jadeite. It is difficult to find a stone more suitable for baths and saunas.
By changing the minerals in the steam room to jadeite, you will certainly notice the difference. At a minimum, the heater will heat up 30% longer. If before you heated a steam room for 1,5 hours, now it will take a couple of hours. But in return you get high-quality steam and all the healing properties, plus jadeite retains heat much longer than other stones.
Thanks to the excellent physical and chemical characteristics of this stone:
- A steam room with jadeite is used longer, since it maintains high temperatures for a long time, the quality of the steam remains unchanged.
- In the steam room it is easier to breathe, and aromatic substances are distributed better.
- When using jadeite, the steam is powerful and long-lasting, but easier to tolerate.
- The nobility of natural jadeite shades is conveyed to the setting.
- Due to its high thermal stability, the stone is not susceptible to sudden transitions from heat to cold, and therefore retains its beautiful appearance and characteristics for a long time.
- Even with frequent openings of the door, the temperature in the steam room with jadeite decreases by no more than 5 degrees, which does not reduce the amount of pleasure received from the bath.
- Vacationers are ensured safety, since the mineral does not contain harmful compounds or radiation.
Thus, having invested once in the arrangement of a jadeite stove, you receive benefits in the form of a pleasant mood, a healing atmosphere and “light” steam. The stones will last at least 5–10 years, providing their healing properties. Due to its high strength, jadeite is resistant to many mechanical influences. The stone withstands shocks and collisions, therefore it lasts longer than other “bath minerals”.
Among the disadvantages of jadeite are the relatively high price and a large number of fakes, among which it can be difficult to identify a natural stone. But if you buy a high-quality mineral, you will rarely have to change it. This makes jadeite an economical stone for a steam room.
Varieties of jadeite
Extraction of jadeite is a very labor-intensive process, since its deposits are often located in inaccessible areas. This explains the prices for the stone. Currently, the extraction of different types of jadeite based on color, type of inclusions and texture has been established.
Based on their shade and composition, there are two types of stone:
- Imperial is a transparent stone of very high quality and emerald green in color.
- Utility is an opaque green stone. A popular and cheap category of jadeite.
- Commercial is an almost opaque green stone that has transparent veins. Most often used in jewelry.
There are also separate types of jadeite depending on their shape and texture. Each of them is suitable for its own purposes:
- chopped – has many natural irregularities and sharp edges, usually placed in a heater or oven;
- bunded – obtained after processing using special equipment, has a smooth and uniform structure, therefore it is more resistant to impacts and lasts longer compared to crushed stone, but costs more;
- polished – characterized by good smoothness and shine, bought mainly for decorating the steam room.
For a bath, it is better to choose pieces of mineral that are large in block size. This is the so-called bath jadeite, which is excellent for heating air and effective steam formation.
What properties does jadeite have?
Due to its characteristics, jadeite is well suited for baths and saunas. Main properties of the mineral:
Characterization | Index |
hardness | 7 on the Mohs scale |
porosity | 0,3-0,5% |
the melting temperature | up to 1060 degrees Celsius |
water absorption | 0,01-0,03% |
specific heat | 0,88 J/kg K |
thermal conductivity | 2,3-3,6 kcal |
Jadeite is characterized by a soothing green color, much like malachite or jade. And the external beauty of the greenish stone is complemented by excellent healing properties. The mineral has a pronounced tonic effect and also improves lung function.
As research by scientists from the Tomsk Research Institute has shown, when jadeite comes into contact with hot water in a steam bath, metasilicon acid is released. This silicon compound has a good effect on the skin and helps with the normal functioning of the respiratory system, which is especially important for residents of megacities who inhale large amounts of toxins every day.
The use of jadeite also has a stimulating effect on the entire body, improves tissue respiration, activates blood circulation, and promotes the removal of toxins.
How to choose a stone
Nowadays, counterfeits of jadeite have appeared on the bathing stone market. Criminals, under the guise of a semi-precious mineral, are trying to sell a less expensive related rock.
Externally, fakes are slightly reminiscent of jadeite in color, but they are easily recognized by poor processing or flaws on the surface. Therefore, when purchasing, you should carefully evaluate the minerals.
Attackers will offer you “kurumnik” – weathered stones that have come off from the main rock. Counterfeits do not correspond to the class of elite jadeite and do not have its properties. Such stones do not withstand elevated temperatures well and break easily, which can be unsafe for people in the steam room. Therefore, we recommend not to chase low prices and take care of your health.
The use of jadeite in the bath
In terms of use in a bath or sauna, jadeite is universal. This stone can be placed in a heater or wood-burning stove, and can also be used for cladding a steam room.
Small jadeite is also suitable for electric heaters. Such pebbles heat up quickly, which means they require less electricity. They can also be placed in a mesh around the flame tube. Green stone looks beautiful and also creates an additional source of heat and steam generation.
