Myths and legends

What meat is the healthiest for humans?

No matter what representatives of the ever-growing army of vegetarians say, eating meat is natural for the species Homo sapiens. Proof of this is the presence of fangs among our teeth (herbivores do not have them). Can a person live without meat? Definitely yes. But such a lifestyle will cause a lot of trouble for the body: how, for example, to fully replenish the supply of essential amino acids? What foods can you get iron from? What can be done to maintain the immune status at a normal level? Grilled meat

But in Siberian conditions, such a diet is definitely stressful from a physiological point of view. Another thing is that the opposite extreme is an excessive emphasis on meat products. The abundance of meat in the diet is a risk factor for the development of gout, and excess protein is converted in the body into a more convenient material for storage – fats. It’s no secret that for a city dweller finding quality meat is a non-trivial task. I have already written about sausage, a product that contains a very limited amount of animal protein. The situation is approximately the same with store-bought minced meat, cutlets and dumplings – even in those rare cases when the proportion of foreign components in these products is kept to a minimum. Happy are those who have the opportunity to buy village meat through friends and relatives. The contrast of tastes between such a product and even the most expensive store-bought analogue is obvious. In this sense, the claim of vegetarians that it is better not to eat meat at all than to eat low-quality meat is, alas, true. But if we abstract from the sad truth of life, what type of meat is most beneficial for health? Let’s compare. Dietary (that is, easy to digest) varieties of meat are traditionally classified as veal, chicken and rabbit, as well as turkey meat. This meat does not contain much fat and perfectly restores the body’s need for protein in case of various diseases. Most useful veal and rabbit, since these animals are more difficult to feed poorly throughout their lives, which means that from an environmental point of view, their meat is healthier than poultry meat. Rabbit meat almost never causes allergic reactions, so it is suitable even for feeding small children suffering from intolerance to various types of animal proteins. Photo: pixabay.com Beef – a record holder for iron content, however, such meat is digested more slowly, therefore it is not recommended in large quantities for people with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. A source of zinc and B vitamins is pork. Such meat is especially useful for children, as well as for people forced to work outdoors in winter. However, as you know, pork contains a lot of fat, so it is better to eat it no more than once a week. Mutton Compared to other types of meat, it contains less cholesterol and stimulates the pancreas. It also contains a lot of fluoride. But perhaps the healthiest type of meat found in our region is venison. This is primarily due to the way of life of deer, whose pastures are located far from factories and large cities. Venison is considered a low-calorie product and is almost never contaminated with parasites. Unfortunately, this type of meat is more of a delicacy, and it is quite difficult to find it on store shelves. Each type of meat is healthy in its own way. The main thing is to choose the highest quality product possible, and also not to be too zealous with the preparation of fried meat dishes. Olga Darsavelidze Related links: For what? Meat is one of the sources of valuable protein, vitamins and amino acids, including all essential ones. However, not all types of meat are equally beneficial for humans. Which one to choose? Rabbit meat is considered dietary. Poultry contains less fat than pork and beef. Lamb is another great source of protein. Pork and beef help increase endurance and promote muscle growth. The choice depends on your goals and the current state of your body.

Nutrients in meat

For most people, dishes made from meat are the basis of their daily diet. What beneficial substances are contained in it? Proteins and valuable fats, vitamins and minerals. Due to their high content, long-term satiety occurs after eating this product. Meat also helps to increase the strength of bones and teeth, strengthen muscles, and improve the functioning of the central nervous system and thyroid gland. That is why a categorical refusal of meat can harm, for example, a child’s growing body. At the same time, it is important to understand that meat is one of the most difficult to digest foods, so it is extremely important to maintain optimal stomach acidity and normal gastrointestinal function for its complete absorption. The most valuable thing in meat is protein, which forms the basis of the body’s vital functions. It is necessary for the construction of new cells. Iron is part of hemoglobin, which carries oxygen from the respiratory organs to tissues, forms red blood cells; the best source of heme iron is red meat and offal. And vitamin B12 helps provide the body with energy. This is not a complete list of the beneficial properties of meat.

Which meat is healthier – pork or lamb?

Pork contains a large amount of B vitamins, which ensure metabolism in cells and maintain adequate energy levels for basic life functions. A high concentration of selenium (4%) contributes to the normal functioning of the thyroid gland and serves as a kind of barrier against cancer. Pork may be especially beneficial for those who need more energy due to increased physical activity, as well as people suffering from anorexia. Among all types of meat, lamb is the richest in iron. It also contains a lot of potassium, magnesium, iodine and lecithin, which is involved in the metabolism of cholesterol in the body. Lamb meat generally has a low fat content compared to other types of meat. This makes it lighter and more nutritious, which is especially important for those watching calorie intake. Beef is rich in high-quality protein, which is the main building material for tissue and muscles. The amino acids in beef promote the formation of new cells and the “repair” of damage in tissues. This product also contains a lot of minerals, iron and zinc, B vitamins, as well as E and PP. Horse meat helps normalize metabolism, neutralizes the damaging effects of radiation and reduces cholesterol levels. Horse meat is considered hypoallergenic. It contains a large amount of vitamins and microelements, such as potassium, sodium, phosphorus, iron, copper, magnesium, thiamine, riboflavin and other B vitamins, as well as A, PP, E. Rabbit contains less fat than many other types of meat. The calorie content of the product is low – 100 g of boiled slice of meat contains only 168 calories.
