Where are diamonds most often found?
Diamond ore (English Diamond Gold) is the most valuable ore in the game after ancient debris, also one of the rarest natural blocks. It is a source of diamonds that allow you to make good tools, armor and much more. Deep Diamond Ore or diamondiferous deep shale (English Deepslate Diamond Ore) is a variant of diamond ore that can be generated in deep shale and tuff.

Destruction [ ]
To mine diamond ore you will need an iron pickaxe or better, which will drop a diamond. With each level of the Luck enchantment, the number of items dropped increases according to the table. Therefore, it is highly undesirable to mine diamond ore without a luck charm on a pickaxe; if there is no such pickaxe, it is better to mine the ore itself, and then extract more diamonds from it. The ore block itself can be obtained using a tool enchanted with Silk Touch.

Natural generation [ ]
Diamond ore is generated in the Overworld in the form of ore veins at a height of −63 to 14 blocks.
Diamond ore occurs increasingly as altitude decreases, and Ore Veins also have a chance of not generating if exposed to air, however they can be found near water or lava. Generation occurs in three stages:
- 7 veins, 1-4 ores per chunk, from Y=14 to Y=-63. There is a 50% chance of not creating a vein if it is in contact with air.
- 1 vein of 1-12 ores every 1 ⁄ 9 chunk, from Y=14 to Y=-63. There is a 70% chance of not creating a vein if it is in contact with air.
- 4 veins of 1-8 ores per chunk. These veins will not generate if they are near air.
Diamond ore can replace stone, granite, diorite, andesite, tuff and deep shale. Diamond ore replacing tuff or deep shale will become deep shale diamond ore.
Diamond ore is also found in small quantities along with fossil remains if they appear below altitude 0.
The best altitude for mining diamonds is -54, so you will mine the ore above the lava level, which appears at altitudes from Y=-55 to Y=-63. It is better to fill large lava lakes with water, then it will be easier to get to the diamond ore. It is strongly recommended to dig around the diamond vein from all sides, including from below, before mining. On the one hand, this will make it possible to detect other parts of the vein if it was generated diagonally, and on the other hand, this will ensure that during mining the diamonds will not fall into the lava under the vein
Mine-mesh [ ]
To avoid missing single-block ore, you can use a “grid mine” to save the durability of valuable tools:
- at a height of 14, to install lighting in the ceiling, we make a recess (so that liquids do not spill in case of accidents)
- then we dig a long horizontal tunnel with a 1×2 profile, forward until we get tired
- Every 10 blocks of the tunnel we also install ceiling lighting (if the toad is particularly thick, you can try after 12-15)
- from the torches to the right and left we dig side adits for 9 blocks and there we also install ceiling lighting
- from the first adit to the right and left, parallel to the central tunnel, a swarm of 3 more tunnels with an indentation through 2 stones (single-block ore will be visible in the wall in any case)
- the system can be expanded left and right by analogy – 7, +6 = 13, +6 = 19, +6 = 25 tunnels.
- when you get tired of building up, we deepen the mesh to the bedrock and now absolutely all the diamonds in the examined rock cube have been caught
Usage [ ]
The main use of diamond ore is to produce diamonds.
Remelting [ ]
Diamond ore mined with a Silk Touch pickaxe can be smelted into diamond. It is advisable to save the mined diamond ore until you get the pickaxe with the Luck enchantment in order to get more valuable diamonds.
Music block [ ]
Diamond Ore can be placed under a music block to produce bass drum sounds.

Interesting Facts [ ]
- Initially, the diamond was called an “emerald.” [1]
- In reality, a distant analogue of diamond ore is kimberlite. It is not in the full sense of an “ore” and a diamond cannot be “smelted” from it, since it will burn much earlier than any surrounding rocks will melt. Diamond is extracted from kimberlite mechanically, which makes it similar to diamond ore in Minecraft.
- It is believed that in new versions it often spawns near large, naturally generated rolling pin deposits.

Mining [ ]
By mining diamond ore with an iron pickaxe or better, you can get one diamond. Nothing falls out of a block destroyed by another tool. If the “Luck” enchantment is applied to the pickaxe, then the number of diamonds dropped increases by one for each level of enchantment, that is, you can get a maximum of 4 diamonds with “Luck” III. If the ore was mined with a pickaxe with the Silk Touch enchantment, then the ore block itself drops instead of a diamond. Diamond ore can be found at depth 15 or below, most commonly found at levels -50 and -64. Depths of -59 and -58 are the most suitable for mining because these levels do not generate bedrock, which begins to appear at a depth of -60.
