Therapeutic properties

Why can t you pour oil on the stones in the bathhouse?

Essential oils are highly concentrated plant substances that are often used in baths and saunas. Indeed, in combination with heated air, the healing properties of oils are enhanced, which makes breathing easier in the steam room. However, you need to use oils correctly, and it is also important to distinguish between natural essential oils and their synthetic substitutes.

Contraindications for the use of essential oils

  • bronchial asthma;
  • epilepsy;
  • heart diseases.

If you feel dizzy, nauseous, or feel unwell, leave the steam room immediately.

In addition, always take into account personal intolerances and check if you are allergic to a particular type of oil. This can be done in the following way: apply a few drops to the skin near the wrist, if after a few hours no redness and/or itching appears, then the oil is suitable for you.

Rules for using essential oils in the bath

  1. Essential oils are not used in their pure form, because. they are highly concentrated. They are added to hot water, applied to the walls of the steam room, evenly distributed around the perimeter, and also when steaming a broom.
  2. Oil does not dissolve in water, so when preparing an aromatic liquid, it is recommended to use special solvents that can be bought in the store. At home, you can use honey or sea salt as solvents. To prepare 1 liter of flavored water you will need 3-4 tablespoons of honey or sea salt and 5 drops of essential oil.
  3. Do not use a large amount of oil at once. For a start, 2-3 drops per ladle of hot water are enough, and then, when the body gets used to it, you can increase the dosage to 5-6 drops, but no more.
  4. Under no circumstances should you pour oil on hot stones. It will immediately burn, and the stones will then have to be washed. In the worst case, if there is a lot of oil and the stones are hot to the maximum, a fire may occur.
  5. If you really want to splash water with oil directly on the stones, then it is better to first pour plain water to cool the stones, and then pour water with aroma oil.
  6. An aromatic liquid (water with oil) can be sprayed into the steam room using a spray bottle, shaking the bottle thoroughly before each spray.
  7. It is recommended to use essential oils depending on the season. In winter, during the cold season, oils with a bactericidal effect, such as pine, are perfect. And in summer it is better to use refreshing oils such as citrus fruits.
  8. Essential oils can be used no more than once a week. In this case, the duration of stay in the aromatic sauna should be increased gradually, start with 1-4 minutes, then you can increase it to 5 minutes or more if desired.

Storing essential oils

Essential oils should be stored away from high temperatures, never in a steam room or in a dressing room. Cool, dark, dry locations are ideal.

How to distinguish real essential oil from fake?

Use only high-quality essential oils, and not their synthetic substitutes, which not only do not have the healing properties of real lavender essential oil, but are also sometimes harmful to health. Believe me, saving in this case is not appropriate and can lead to unpleasant consequences. But how can you distinguish real oil? Let’s figure it out now.

To get started, you can do a little test. Place a drop of oil on plain white paper and let it dry. If there is a greasy ring stain left on the back of the sheet of paper, then you did not get pure essential oil. Exceptions include heavy, dense oils such as sandalwood, vetiver, German chamomile and patchouli.

High cost does not always guarantee high quality, but a very low price most often indicates a synthetic hybrid. Although it all depends on the type of oil. For example, lavender, rosemary and sweet orange oils are considered quite common, so they are always of more or less high quality. But high-quality oils of rose, jasmine, lemon balm, immortelle and chamomile are usually expensive.

Name and composition

The composition of the essential oil should not contain fragrances or foreign additives. If you order oils online, the label or product description must indicate the Latin name of the plant from which the oil is made. If it just says the usual name, for example, lemon balm oil, then most likely it is a cheap analogue.

Real essential oils should be stored in glass containers, because. upon contact with plastic, the chemical compounds included in its composition may decompose. Moreover, it should be tinted glass of dark blue or amber brown color to protect the oil from ultraviolet radiation. Conclusion: if you see oil in a transparent or plastic bottle, it means it is synthetic.

Bottle volume

Most often, real essential oils are produced in volumes of 5-10 ml, no more. At the same time, do not under any circumstances confuse essential oils with cosmetic ones, which can be in large volumes, because. they are created and used completely differently.

Mode of application

Most natural essential oils can be taken orally, although only as directed. Therefore, if the packaging says “for external use only” or “for cosmetic purposes”, this should alert you.

Impact of aroma

When purchasing, it is not always possible to evaluate the smell of the oil. But if you already have essential oils at home, you can conduct an experiment: inhale them all in turn, one after the other. If the oils are natural, you will not experience any discomfort. In the case of synthetic substitutes, after 3-5 inhalations it will be difficult for you to distinguish odors.

Increasing the effect of a steam room with smells is an idea that originated with our ancestors. They hung bunches of dry herbs in the bathhouse, added infusions to the steam, and sprinkled kvass on the heater. Nowadays there are many more aromatherapy products. What they are and how to use them correctly – you will find out in our material.

Brooms

This is the most ancient and popular aromatherapy remedy. Birch, oak and grass brooms were especially loved in Rus’. Each of them has its own benefits.

Oak trees strengthen the nervous system, normalize sweating, and accelerate the healing of skin wounds.

Birch trees improve immunity, relieve aching joints and help cope with wrinkles.

Wormwood brooms help with headaches and fatigue.

Please note: most brooms made from dried twigs must be steamed before use. There is a popular misconception that this should only be done in boiling water. In fact, it is only needed for coniferous trees. It is better to soak the rest in cold (2-3 hours) or warm water (at least 20 minutes). Then the branches will give up more vitamins and phytoncides.

Oils

Depending on the plant from which the oil is obtained, it will be beneficial either for the soul or for the body.

Clove will invigorate, geranium will improve your mood, pine will relieve irritability, and neroli will not leave a trace of drowsiness. Aloe and sage will solve skin problems, and mint and rose hips will improve digestion. Choose!

Remember: you cannot pour pure oil onto the heater. It will burn, and due to the high concentration of active substances, your health may deteriorate sharply. It would be correct to dilute 2-3 drops of oil in 1 liter of water, moisten the stones with the solution, and immediately after steam with clean water.

Zaparki

Watering the heater with herbal infusions is also a long-standing tradition. But if previously you collected them and dried them yourself, now you can just buy a bag of steaming.

Choose plants with the desired effect, keep in boiling water for 20 minutes and sprinkle the decoction on the stones. You can also dip a broom in it and pour the infusion over the shelves and walls.

Important: like any aromatherapy product, plants in parks may have contraindications. Please read them before using them. And remember that you can only brew herbs once. The bag can be reused.

Salt

Large pieces of salt and briquettes are useful for inhalation – they saturate the air in the bathhouse with important microelements.

Place the product on the heater and splash with water. The salt will begin to release vapors that will improve the health of the respiratory tract, skin and body as a whole.

Such procedures are a good prevention of flu and colds.

To enhance the effect and definitely not get sick, use salt regularly and in combination with essential oils.

Salt steams

A suitable option if you want to get all the best at once. These bags contain not only herbs, but also salt! Consequently, they guarantee a unique aroma, the benefits of minerals, and the healing substances of plants.

Want to get even more? Choose parks that contain several plants at once. Together they will give an enhanced effect.

Bath fragrances

They have the same effect as essential oils, but differ in composition: in addition to oils, they contain water, extracts, emulsions and other components. Also, fragrances usually have a larger bottle.

What exactly to give preference to – them or oil – is up to you. There is not much difference between them.

Important! Like oils, fragrances should be diluted with water. How exactly to do this – read the instructions on the package.

Evaporators

These containers will save you from the need to constantly add steam to disperse the aroma of products into the air. Evaporators are made from natural materials: they do not emit harmful elements and increase humidity when heated. Thanks to this, aromatic substances are independently distributed throughout the room and absorbed into the skin.

Pour water into a container, add oil and place it near the stove. Breathe deeply – the healing steam will immediately begin to act.

Use aromatherapy to make your bathhouse experience enjoyable and beneficial! Everything for procedures is easy to find
