Why pour water on the stones in the bathhouse?

A large number of questions about an electric sauna stove arise even at the stage of directly choosing an electric heater. The most common questions among our customers:

  • how to choose an electric stove for a bath and sauna;
  • how to connect an electric heater in a bathhouse;
  • why does an electric sauna stove have a steam generator?
  • how to properly place stones in an electric sauna stove;
  • electric heater 220 V or 380 V, what is the difference;
  • Is it possible to supply water to an electric stove in a sauna?

Let’s go into more detail on the last question, which arises in almost every customer of ours.

An electric sauna heater is a device that is used to heat stones and then air in a steam room; it works by converting electrical energy into heat. The main elements of an electric heater include:

  • corps made from materials resistant to high temperatures and humidity;
  • heating elements (Heating elements or NTL) are located inside the housing and serve to heat the stones;
  • Control block allows you to regulate the temperature and operating time of the heater.

Operating principle of an electric heater is as follows: when you turn on the device, the heating elements begin to heat up, transferring heat to the stones, onto which we, in turn, pour water.

Is it possible to pour water on an electric heater in a bathhouse?

Answer: Yes, can and even necessary!

Water can be poured onto heated stones in an electric sauna heater, as in a traditional wood-burning stove, but this must be done in doses while maintaining the time interval, so that the stones can be restored.

The more stones there are in the electric heater, the more water you can pour on the stones, for example: the photo shows two models of the stove with a capacity 9 кВт, but with different laying of stones.

Sawo Cubos CUB3-90NB-P (laying stones 75 kg):

When we pour water on the heater, the water hits the stones heated to high temperatures, then the water evaporates and This increases air humidity inside a steam room. The principle of operation is quite simple and is not much different from a wood-burning sauna stove.

It is important to rememberthat the operation of the sauna must be carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and recommendationsto ensure the safety and durability of bath equipment.

You can use it to apply water to the stones. special ladle (scoop) filled with water. Most manufacturers recommend using scoops with a capacity no more than 200 ml, while maintaining a short period of time, so that the stones can be restored.

Do not forget that too much water if it gets on the stones can cause to damage to the heating element, so don’t overdo it. Tape heating elements (NTL) more resourceful and as practice shows, electric ovens with low-temperature tape last longerthan models of stoves with conventional heating elements (heating elements). Heaters with NTL are most often installed precisely in commercial steam rooms.

Any heating element in an oven is a consumable item and if it fails, it can be replaced with a new one. No manufacturer of electric ovens does not provide a warranty on heating elements!

If the heating element fails, you will need to refer to the instruction manual for your electric oven and look there manufacturer and oven model, then go to the store and order a new heating element.

Supplying water to an electric heater in a sauna is a safe and effective way air humidification in the steam roomHowever, certain rules must be followed to avoid failure of the heating element. We wish you light and high-quality steam!

The total amount of any substance or decoction is from a few drops to 200 g per 3 liters of water. If you use a pure decoction or sprinkle, for example, pure birch sap or kvass on the heater, a burning smell will immediately appear. It is better to splash the infusion on the stones alternately with clean hot water. Then the flavored moisture will evaporate evenly, without overheating. You can simply dip a broom into a basin with the prepared composition and spray it around the steam room or scatter some dry plants directly on the shelves. In this case, leaves of black currant, sage, eucalyptus, and spruce branches are often used. When the plants are wet, they will give off a wonderful smell.
